| | Thanks Carol, hello all. My g gpa was Charles Pearce Sylvestor SMITH who was born 29 Jul 1830 at Kingston, but Kingston where???? We thought we'd found him on IGI in Kingston-on-Hull. Yorkshire but he & family have since left for USA. Now I'm looking again & checking if they actually did go. Cheers. Anne from Cairns, Aus. |

Hope you have some luck and if I can help just shout. Welcome to Smith Chat too, we are gradually growing on here and have a few Aussie members now

This may not be of any help but worth thinking about. |
| chellin2 wrote: | When you say Greater London Matty, that used to be in Surrey thats where I was talking about. Greater London is just stretching out nowadays. When you look in the census records it will say Kingston upon Thames Surrey. |
| Carole wrote: | Hello Anne & Welcome to Smith Chat. I'm really glad you found us & now looking forward to following your trail back to your great grandad's roots. You've said that at present you're checking again the Kingston-on-Hull possibility, so please then let us know what you find & tell us anything you'd like us to check up on for you.
If you find the Kingston-in-Hull, Yorkshire one is not yours - you could as chellin suggests, look to Kingston in Surrey. (As chellin & matty have already mentioned ....... Kingston Surrey became Kingston Gtr London after our admin county boundaries changes in 1974)
Though surname is Smith - on a positive note - Charles's full name is quite distinctive - & I'll bet not many named Charles Pearce Sylvestor in 1830.
Bye for now |
PS: Anne - have you got any Census Data for Charles? - 1841, 1851 etc? Or - his marriage certificate - if married in England? Carole

Charles Pears Smith born about 1831 Kingston-upon-Hull Yorkshire ... died 1911 Parents William Smith & Mary Pears.
Thomas Smith born 2.11.1825 Leeds Yorkshire Parents William Smith &Mary Pears died 20.12.1890.
Richard Smith born 2.8.1829 Kingston-upon Hull died 6.9.1904 Parents William Smith & Mary Pears
William Pears Smith born about 1834 Kingston-upon-Hull died 1905 parents William Smith & Mary Pears.
John Pears Smith born about 1830 Kingston-upon-Hull died 1860 parents William Smith & Mary Pears.
I found this on the IGI but there was no mention of Sylvester in Charles's name ... Just Charles Pears ... not Pearce! so is it the same family??? |
| mattycat wrote: | Hello Anne again, I have now found a marriage but you may have it ...
Marriage 9.12.1822 at Bradford Yorkshire England William Smith to Mary Pearse
they are the parents of the above .. note again the spelling of Pears above and yet this is Pearse.. it could be the same with Pearce:lol:
PS Again I have found this on IGI
Birth of Mary Pearse about 1807 Yorkshire--- spouse William Smith her death 16.8.1870.
William Smith birth about 1805 Yorkshire -- spouse Mary Pearse .. his death .. 1833 |
Hello Anne,
How's it going for you? Would be interested to know whether you've had any success since your original topic? Have you discovered for sure yet whether Charles was actually from Kingston in Hull, Yorkshire, or from Kingston in Surrey?
Hope you'll post an update for us here soon Anne, & please let us know if we can be of any help?
