PostSubject: The drummer boy.   Sun 28 Oct 2007 - 23:02

I had the urge to write new words to this classic song.

The drummer boy.

Please tell me what it’s for

Pa rum pum pum pum.

You wage your bloody war

Pa rum pum pum pum.

You told me it would stop

Pa rum pum pum pum.

Save children they’d forgot

Pa rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum.

Peace on earth good will to men.

You promise now you promised then.

There’s no denying

There’s children dying.

More countries joining in

Pa rum pum pum pum.

A new world will begin

Pa rum pum pum pum.

Our voices will be heard

Pa rum pum pum pum.

We always keep our word

Pa rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum.

Peace on earth good will to men.

You promise now you promised then.

There’s no denying

We think you’re lying.

Millions die each year

Pa rum pum pum pum.

Our conscience can’t be clear

Pa rum pum pum pum.

Now looked at in disgust

Pa rum pum pum pum.

In God and us they trust

Pa rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum.

Peace on earth good will to men.

You promise now you promised then.

There’s no denying

We hear them crying.

So now this Christmas night

Pa rum pum pum pum.

Do what you know is right

Pa rum pum pum pum.

Clear debt so they might eat

Pa rum pum pum pum.

Stand on their own two feet

Pa rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum

Rum pum pum pum.

Peace on earth good will to men.

You promise now you promised then.

The world keeps turning

Yet we’re not learning.

Hi Daz and Gillian,

Yes that is so good Daz, thank you (hearts)

Ben has just been on holiday to Egypt with his mum. They stayed near Luxor. They have been telling me about the poverty, and the orphans - begging and sleeping outside in the streets - young children. In some ways it has done Ben good to see all that and to realise how very fortunate he is in comparison, but - ohh - - what can you say - it tugs at the heart strings & perhaps better not say more on here. Poetry is sometimes the best way to express how we feel about these things, I think.

Love Carole

Hi Gillian and Cas.

It's right about the poverty and how easy it could all be stopped. It just makes you think sometimes that governments are deliberately keeping them poor.
I spent quite a few years around Africa and know how you and Ben feel Cas. (give him our love ).
Love to all as well.
