Knutsford.

King Kanute the Knut lived in a hut

By the side of a fast flowing fjord.
He would tell all who’d listen
With eyes that would glisten.
Of a time when he once was a Lord.


He was old he was wise you could see in his eyes

Much thought, yes a ponderous air.
They thought him quite mad
In a way which was sad.
When he spoke of the sea and his chair.

I am the King of England
He proclaimed with his arms opened wide.
The sea I command with a wave of my hand
To stop and so turn the tide.

So Kanute the Knut had made his decree
But the sea it continued to rise.
And then a great shout as he bobbled about
People now thought him all full of lies.

So Kanute the Knut went to live in a hut
By a Fjord in a place he adored.
And said when I’m past and I rest here my last
Then henceforth let it be known as Knutsford.
