Hi, I'm wondering if you didn't get my email. Thomas Smith who m Jennet Giles is the son of John and Jennet Smith on the 1767 returns of papists. They appear as Thomas Smith plodweaver age 22 resident 20 years wife Jennet spinner of cotton age 19, resdent 19 years their child Mary age 1. Mary was bap at Dunkenhalgh RC chapel 3 may 1766, the eldest of 14 or 15 children, including Henry 1781 and Mary's godmother was Isabel Smith, her faather's younger sister, while her godfather was Henry Hill who lived near the Smiths in the returns of papists and is undoubtedly a close relative. best wishes, marie

Hi Marie87

I have just come across your two posts and thought I would respond. I expect you await a reply from Carole and she is likely to be around at the week end I think. I can't help you directly but please keep in touch and someone will get back to you.

Thanks Gillian

PostSubject: Thomas Smith - Jennet (Joanna) Giles   Tue 25 Mar 2008 - 18:42

Hi Kelly,

It looks like your Smiths are the same as mine.
The info I have at this point (I tend to do it in fits and starts, also from one side of the family to the other, organised I am not !) is:

Henry & Ann had 7 children that I know about, these are: Thomas (who is my great x 3 grandfather; Johnathan; Robert; Mary; Jenny? Ann & Peggy.

Thomas married Elizabeth (Betty) Loyned. Have not yet researced children yet apart from Thomas who was born 23-Jan-1839 Great Harwood.
He married Sarah Cockcroft (died 24-March-1875). Their children were: John Edward; Jane Ann; Mary Elizabeth & Margaret Hannah.

Thomas married again to Agnes Barker (born 5-Jan-1853 Ormskirk) on 7-July-1876. They had 11 children. Thomas died 2-Jan-1908.

I have details on the above other info, Wills burials, etc. I will try and put it all together and let you have it if you are interested. Just let me know.

Hope this is of use.

Regards

Julian

Hi everyone wave

Yes I'm back, after my week's holiday!!

Julian - great to see you here, & it looks that you have discovered the recompiled
Smith List page 24 that includes your own Smith interests of Great Harwood & Oswaldtwistle. You'll be added to Smith Chat's Usergroup "Smith-Lan-WRY-IoM" (the Red Usergroup) & your username will then display in red.

Julian and Marie - not sure whether you've been able to contact Kelly by email - but in any case - I'll contact her separately & ensure that she is aware of your messages here.

Julian, Marie & Kelly. There are more new members interests which are Smiths of Great Harwood area - which I'm hoping also to add to the Smith List during this next week or two. Would be good if some connections could be found between you all, wouldn't it.

Gillian and Maxine,
Thank you very much as always for having kept
watch on my East & South-East Lancs board
during my absence cheers
