Historical Directories is a digital library of local and trade directories for England and Wales, from 1750 to 1919. It contains high quality reproductions of comparatively rare books, essential tools for research into local and genealogical history.

For Kellys Directory in Yorkshire just do a location search.

Joiners' North of England Marriages Index pre-1837 (online)

On this database so far, at December 2007,
Yorkshire marriages indexed are as follows:

County / Chapman Code / Number of Parishes covered / Number of Marriages indexed

Yorkshire East Riding / ERY / 223 / 137662
Yorkshire North Riding / NRY / 208 / 108323
Yorkshire West Riding / WRY / 114 / 180032

Also includes Male and Female Surnames Indexes for each Riding.

There is a fee payable though ck-sad
but I suppose it's worth it if it's helpful in your research.

Please let us know if you find any of your Smiths or
other surnamed ancestors on there Great Stuff!!

Another site that may be of interest which was sent to me through the Calderdale Family History Society is Malcolm Bull's website - http://www.calderdalecompanion.co.uk
He has a lot of surnames and places of interest for WRY area.

Hi Carole,

I know what you mean about Malcolm Bull's website ! I have spent HOURS engrossed by some of the stories and finding out snippets of information about my family and the history of many buildings etc. Somehow makes the area where my ancestors came from, come alive for me. Hope to visit sometime in person. Enjoy !

Janice
